FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the Black Library?
The Black Library is a secret and hidden place, a mystical archive held by the ancient Eldar, in which the answers to many questions may be found... but which few humans have ever discovered.
No, this Black Library!
The Black Library is an imprint of the British publishing house
BL Publishing. It produces a range of all-action novels, art books, background books and other cool items, all set in the dark and gothic worlds of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000. BL Publishing in turn is a part of
Games Workshop, the world’s leading creator of fantasy games.
Dark and gothic what?
The worlds our stories and comics are set in were all developed through tabletop science fiction and fantasy battle-games like Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000. They are made by our parent company, Games Workshop.
So you need to play the games to understand this stuff?
Far from it! If you like action-packed adventure and mayhem, whether fantasy or science fiction, you’ll love Black Library’s novels. In fact, many fans find our titles an excellent introduction to the more in-depth Games Workshop range.
What else does BL Publishing do?
Among our imprints are
Black Flame,
Black Industries,
Sabertooth Games,
Solaris and
Warhammer Historical Wargames. We are constantly developing new projects that you'll hear about very soon.
Where can I get your books?
Our novels are distributed to regular book stores in the UK, US, Australia and beyond. Any good bookshop can order our books if you give them the title and ISBN number.
A wide range of our products are carried in Games Workshop and other hobby stores around the world.
If none of that helps just browse this site as you can find everything we do, including many exclusive limited editions and merchandise you’ll not find anywhere else.
I don’t have a credit card. Can I still buy products from your online store?
We can also accept payment by cheque or UK Postal Order. Give us a ring on + 44 (0) 115 900 4144 or
contact us for more information.
How much is my order in my local currency?
We charge your credit / debit card in pounds sterling (GBP) and your card provider will use their exchange rate to convert the total into your local currency. If you are unsure as to the current exchange rate we advise you to call your card provider and ask.
Your new book hasn’t made it to my country yet!
Of course, with our books being published from the UK, sometimes they take a little while getting across to your part of the world. Generally our products are released 3-5 weeks later in the US and Canada, and 6-8 weeks in Australia.
I’ve got a store, can I sell your products?
Sure, check out our
Trade Information section for details of distributors in your country. If you need more information then please
contact us.
People say I’m really talented. Can I draw for you?
If you really are talented, we’re happy to consider your art proposal. Send in three or four pieces to
our publishing address, at least one of these must be based on Warhammer or Warhammer 40,000.
Can I write for you?
For new authors, we run regular short story competitions, the winners of which are published in one of our novel anthologies. Keep an eye on our website for details of the next competition.
But I really want to write a novel for you!
You’re welcome to try one once we’re happy you can deliver the all-action mayhem we like. Do well in our short story competition and we’ll be far more favourably disposed to a novel proposal.
Do you have any of your previous limited edition items hidden away, because I would kill to get one?
Afraid not. Once they’re gone, they’re gone! Make sure you’re
subscribed to our newsletters to get advance news on our new releases.
Are you printing your novels in other languages besides English?
Well, if you can read this answer, do you really need a translation?
Assuming you do, rest assured that we’re keen to have our books accessible to everyone. We already have licensing deals with publishers in a large number of countries (Spain, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy and Russia). As and when we have more details we’ll endeavour to post them here.
Hey, didn’t Games Workshop do a range of novels some years ago?
Yes we did. Around twenty Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 and Dark Future titles were released, first from Games Workshop and then under licence to Boxtree Books in the UK. The most important titles from those days have been reissued by Black Library. If your favourite title hasn’t come back, accept our apologies.
Where can I get more information about your authors?
All of our authors are listed in the
Browse by Author section.
I’ve a question for one of your authors. Can you give me their email address?
We’re sorry, but we can’t give out personal contact information for our authors. However, many of them regularly contribute to our
forum. Try pitching your question there.
Out of stock and Out of print / Sold Out, what is the difference?
Out of stock means that we don't have any of that item in our warehouse at the moment and we are looking at getting in more stock. Out of print / Sold out means we have no stock and there will be no more stock in the future at our warehouse.
When has my order been despatched?
Our system currently doesn't email you when we despatch an order. If you would
like to check the status of your order just
contact us with a store query.
I’ve another question you haven’t answered here!
